Grey Cafe sits just outside the usual buzz of Publika, tucked into the Solaris Dutamas area, bringing a calm but lively spot for those who enjoy a blend of casual café comfort with a thoughtful food menu. This is very much a café that locals gravitate toward for leisurely brunches or afternoon breaks, especially if you appreciate coffee and Japanese-inspired dishes with a twist.

The atmosphere inside is relaxed yet inviting, with a subtle modern edge visible in the décor and layout. It’s the type of place where you might find yourself lingering over a long chat or quietly working on your laptop, thanks to the peaceful vibe and helpful staff who are familiar faces to regulars. The seating options don’t overwhelm—think cozy tables that invite small groups or solo visitors who want a bit of downtime.

Grey Cafe is best known for its surprisingly inventive menu that mixes Japanese comfort food with café classics. The Katsu Chicken Don and Hamburg Sando are standout savory options, praised for their satisfying flavours and generous portions. Fans of these dishes often note the care put into balancing ingredients — the juicy meat patties, soft yet sturdy sandwich bread, and complementary sauces all come together without fuss.

Sweet treats here are well worth sampling, especially if you like mochi or cakes with a subtle Asian influence. The Brownies Black Sesame Cheese Cake and Hojicha Mont Blanc offer something a little different from your usual café fare, adding local nuance and textural contrasts that feel fresh rather than overly sweet. Matcha lovers have sharp options like Ichigo Matcha and a strawberry matcha drink that locals find visually appealing and balanced in flavor.

Grey Cafe also pulls in those who favor their coffee, with straightforward options like Long Black done well, and creative mocktails such as the Plum Tea Cold Brew or Grapefruit Peach, which give a lively twist without the alcohol. It’s a good spot to visit during late mornings or early afternoons when you want a casual but high-quality café experience away from overly busy malls or chain outlets.

Getting here involves a short walk from the big malls nearby—there’s a comfortable rhythm in this transition from commercial spaces to a quieter local enclave. Locals tend to know the directions well, using nearby landmarks such as Ali Muthu Ah Hock or Cocodry as signposts. This element adds a slightly neighborhood feel, making it a steady favourite for those who appreciate discovering quieter pockets in the Dutamas area.

Overall, Grey Cafe suits those who appreciate good coffee, thoughtful fusions on their plates, and a calm space to enjoy food and conversation without the rush or noise of busier city spots. If you’re up for a relaxing brunch or an afternoon sweet and coffee treat in a setting that travels lightly between casual café and casual dining, this spot captures that balance nicely.

Interesting restaurant located outside of Publika. How to get there? From BIG go upstairs, look out for cocodry. Go out from the mall, and turn left (ali muthu ah hock is on your right). At the T junction turn right and walk straight. The ambience is really nice, Sid was there too. The workers there are really helpful and nice. Matcha: the strawberry matcha looks so good! Tried the affogato, it pairs well with the lava cake. The Niko Neko series is suitable for non matcha lovers too. Cause it’s beginner friendly. Food: it was good but nothing extraordinary. The matcha pasta is really something. It’s uniquely taste I’d repeat the hamburger sandwich. That’d be my favorite dish from Grey

I ordered a few dishes during my visit: 1. Hamburg Don – The meat was superb and paired really well with the egg, Japanese rice, and soy-based sauce. Definitely a solid 9/10. Honestly, the patty was so good that I think Grey Café should consider coming up with a burger meal next time. 2. Katsu Sando – This was the highlight of the meal. The bread was thick yet soft, and the katsu itself was cooked to perfection. It’s one of those meals that will stay in my memory for a while. 3. Spaghetti Miso – Flavorful, especially towards the end when everything was mixed well. Tasty, but the flavor doesn’t really linger. Still enjoyable though. Ambience & Service The ambience is definitely an A+. I went with a reservation, but during my visit, a few walk-ins had to leave because the café was already full and they didn’t want to sit outside. It’s clearly a popular spot for hanging out. Staff were attentive and quick to clear plates (helpful since the tables are on the smaller side). Baby chairs are also provided, which is a big plus for families. Extras I received a complimentary dessert for a birthday, though the cake itself was quite ordinary. On the drinks side, the Matcha Cloud was interesting – a unique combo, unlike anything I’ve tasted before. Overall Great food, lovely ambience, and attentive service. I’d definitely come back, especially for the katsu sando and hamburg don.

Discovered this place because we attend Sid’s Tribe class. We were quite happy with the food and drinks; everything was flavorful and the portion was decent. If I could describe it in one way, it’s evident the chef(s) did their R&D properly before putting out dishes on their menu. Service was great as well. The waiter gave off “I love my job” vibes, which is nice to experience as a customer. We tried the pesto chicken pasta, miso carbonara pasta, egg Sando, some potato thingy (I forgot what it’s called lol), and strawberry matcha.

Wahh the foods, drink and tiramisu, choco bar so good. So worth it to visit again. Miso carbonara and hamburger don definitely hit. Tiramisu with choco bar so good combination, not so creamy, can taste coffee and dark chocolate. Balance and nice
